FACIAL FAQ

How long does my hair have to be to get a wax?

Hair has to be about 1/4 inch long (about the length of a grain of rice) to get a great wax.

What if my hair is longer than 1/4 inch?  Do I need to trim before I come in?

No! Please do not trim before you come in, as trimming will almost guarantee that every hair isn’t the proper length for an effective wax. It’s better to have hair that’s too long than too short.

Do you use hard wax or soft wax with Brazilians?

I am well-versed in using both soft and hard wax for Brazilians, but strongly believe in using soft wax for the majority of the area. Hard wax simply isn’t as effective in keeping the hair removed in certain areas and doesn’t pick up every hair the same way soft wax does. I am definitely able to honor all hard wax requests as well.

How long does a typical wax last?

A typical body wax lasts anywhere between 4-6 weeks, with every 5 weeks usually being ideal after continued regular waxing. Facial waxing is recommended every 3-4 weeks.

I’ve never had a Brazilian before...Will it hurt?

It truly depends on the combination of the amount/texture of your hair and your pain tolerance when you first come in. I offer a complimentary numbing solution to apply to make things more tolerable for you. You will find, though, with regular waxing your hairs’ texture will completely change and the amount that grows in will significantly reduce. After the first wax, the hairs’ texture will thin significantly, making the second wax easier as well.

I’m going on vacation.  When should I come in for my waxing?

Ideally, 2-4 days before you leave so your skin has the proper time to heal. The minimum time you must stay out of the sun post-wax is 24 hours, so if you only have a day, that’s ok, too.

I’m developing ingrown hairs in between waxing.  Why is that & what can I do about it?

Skin isn’t exfoliated as regularly with waxing as it is with shaving. As the epidermis of the skin thickens, hair follicles can remain stuck under the skin. It is important to keep up with aftercare, which involves exfoliating with a granular scrub 3 days a week and/or using Whish Flawless Ingrown Hair Serum 1x/day for optimal results.

Why should I consider eyebrow or eyelash tinting?

Eyebrow tinting is a perfect way to shape and define the eyebrows, while most of the time eliminating the need of an eyebrow pencil. Eyelash tinting is perfect for anyone who wants dark eyelashes without using mascara. It’s ideal for clients who have blonde or brown eyelashes or those who are going on a beach vacation. *Eyelash tinting only darkens eyelashes. It does not thicken them.

How long does tinting last?

Between 3-4 weeks.

Is the dye safe to use around my eyes?

Yes. It is a vegetable-based dye, similar to henna.

If I’m leaving on vacation or have a special event, when should I get my tinting done?

Tinting should be performed at least 48-72 hours before you leave.

Can I have tinting done the same day as my wax?

Yes, they can both be performed on the same day.

I’m getting an eyelash tint. Can I wear my contacts?

Contacts are not recommended, but I have contact cases and solution if needed.

I’m getting married. When should I get a facial to have my skin look good for the ceremony?

You should be receiving a facial one week before the big day.

I’m interested in getting a chemical peel. Will I actually peel and be irritated?

Not at all. The chemical peel that I use is not a Jessner peel or anything that is used in a dermatologist’s office. It is a 30% lactic/glycolic/salicylic combination peel that also has calming botanical ingredients. Your skin will look fabulous afterwards!

I’m interested in getting a series of chemical peels. What time of year is best?

It is best to do a series of peels in the fall or winter, as we are not outdoors as much and our skin is not exposed to the sun as often.

Why did you choose Epicuren Discovery as your product line?

Epicuren Discovery has superior anti-aging products. Much of the line contains an enzyme that repairs damaged skin cells. With continued use of the products, fine lines diminish, skin tone and texture is evened out, and a youthful glow appears. The enzyme that is used in the products was originally used on burn victims, as it was effective in regenerating burnt skin. No matter whether you’re aging, dry, or acne-prone, every client who begins an Epicuren regimen ends up falling in love with the line and keeps coming back for more and more! Epicuren Discovery also believes in using organic/natural based ingredients.

How long are your facial treatments?

The hands on time of my facials are 60 minutes, never a minute less. The Epicuren Signature Facial is 75 minutes.

Can I get a facial before I leave on a beach vacation?

Yes, but it’s best to give your skin at least 3 days to be ready for the beach. Your skin will be freshly exfoliated and sun sensitive.

Can I receive facial waxing the same day I get a facial?

Yes you can.
